10 things the year 2013 has taught me- most of these I learnt the hard way

1. Some people have already made up their mind to hate you, no matter how much you try to please them.
2. Never preach to a depressed person.
3. Think wisely before you act.
4. Your lecturers really want to help you succeed.
5. Some people aren't aware of their faults unless you tell them.
6. To be mature has to do with your experiences on earth.
7. Familiarity breeds contempt.
8. Sew your clothes as soon as you notice a little tear..
9. When you fall, the world doesn't wait for you to pick yourself back up. Forgive yourself.
10..Your academic intelligence, degrees and credentials doesn't make you a smart person. Some people might not remember your actions but they would never forget how those things you did or say made them feel.
GOODBYE 2013...I hope I don't fall back on my mistakes again. (I don't want to have to re-write this post in 2014)

I JUST WANT TO TALK ABOUT THIS TONIGHT

Dear blog, how are you doing today?. I hope you aren't sad from all the depressed musings and rants I've been feeding you with lately. I just want to let you know that you are my only friend for now, so please bear with me. it's just me and you now, I am so tired and really finding it difficult to sleep tonight, the hot water didn't work (where do they get that from anyway).
This playboy called Mtn and its entire group of scammers have duped me once again. I keep on enriching these people with my money, while they throw their placebo of a "service" at my feet as if to say "take it or leave it".
Why don't we know our rights?, why don't even know our worth?, we cant protest and speak out when we're being exploited and molested from behind like a hopeless harlot...
From my experience in Nigeria, I've discovered that we suffer and smile - a huge grin at that. We prefer to fold our arms and say "e go better, God dey". For where!?!
No offense, but i think religion has done us more harm than good in this country.
The white-man religion has fooled us. We relax and pray,hope,pray,hope,pray,hope...nothing else.
You tell a pastor that you are hungry, and rather than giving you the a place of rice from his fridge, he opens his torn bible, sprinkles 'anointed' water down your throat and says "let me pray for you".
You see someone in dire need of money to cater for his family, rather than give him some money, you look the other way and use the money to pay tithe/offering. To who?
You might be surprised at the way I have switched my anger from mtn to Nigerians and religion, but believe me,they are all connected.
Our religion has contributed greatly the "over-complacency" of Nigerians you see today. They are so filled with the hope that they can sit down, watch their country decay, and their hypocritical over-religiousness would fix the problems they themselves welcomed in the first place..
Not only are Nigerians mentally handicapped to fix this country collectively, but we are also a deluded bunch. Arise O'compatriots!.

Thanks blog for letting me throw up on you once again. Now that I've poured out my heart, I can now sleep.
Goodnight people. *yawns* *drinks hot water*

Studying law? like seriously?

I would say that I was ignorant about the law and all its 'orobo' children. In my opinion, studying law because you enjoy arguing and convert this odd hobby into a career in law represents a fundamental misunderstanding of law school and the legal profession. Law is not about arguing; it's about arguments. The difference between the two may seem subtle, but in reality, they are miles apart. Law school is for calm people, not wild heads. Most people garner their argumentative power from the loudness of their voice, irrelevant conclusion and anecdotes but law is like that. We call that poetic justice. Instead of encouraging argumentative kids to become lawyers and further perpetuate the myth that people who argue should become lawyers, we should call them what the really are: Assholes! ITK!

The very first day of law class: it was one of the longest day of my life. I had like five classes scheduled at over five hours. The annoying part of it was the expectations; I didn't know what the next class would bring, so the time moved at a snail's speed. But part of it was just how boring law school classes are. It is a miracle that I had to keep returning to class.

The WASPy dad from Legally Blonde must have been right; "Law really is for ugly, serious, and boring people."

When I was a fresher, my classmates would occasionally have battle of wits and would make arguments like they knew it all. All I could think of was, "Christ, they actually believe in this stuff."

When one of my lecturers who is a SAN at one of the big firms told us that his desire was in "making an impact," In my mind I immediately had a bizarre image of a truck crashing down on me. I just couldn't get the hype surrounding the issue of the law as being this end-all-be-all concept.

I would resume school next two weeks and I would be taking an exam that was put off because of the asuu strike, it is going to be sort of a bulimic method of exam taking. I binge up all those legalese and then purge it all over my exam papers.

I saw an angel in Nigeria

Wtf?, is this me?
Not everthing in Nigeria is bad, we have unfiltered desire to love and share with each other. At a very tender age, when I was about five to six years old, I became obsessed with angels. My priest always preached that there was a guardian angel watching over us and I believed him, literally.
So I would leave an empty chair next to me while I ate or at night I would lie down on my bed thinking of my guardian angel and inviting her to sleep with me (no homo...lol).I would chat and talk to her and at the end I would feel somewhat inspired.
When I was seven I finally got to be an angel in the christmas carol play (I fought for the post)...it was a crowning achievement in my life to that point.
But Grandma didn't believe in angels, she believed in hardwork to fight another day. Grandma was tough and tireless. The kindest but least sentimental woman I have ever known, she believed in seeing and believing, action not words.
I remember the day a woman who lived next door to us was threatened with a miscarriage, while my mother sat down and cried with the woman, Grandma walked a mile and half to fetch the doctor...right in the dead of the night!.
Grandma was a famous fix it woman in our neighbourhood. Someone always needed help and she helped everyone. She took food to families, her matter-of-fact manner made it acceptable. Grandma made our clothes and conjured good meals out of no promising ingredients.
As I grew up, I turned my obsession with angels into a serious affair. I studied then and even aspired to write a ground breaking book, proving their existence. I read on people who had miraculously recovered from an illness and people who had actually seen angels.
I narrated the story of a young boy to my Grandma, the boy had screamed and sobbed to keep his family from boarding a flight as an angel advised. They ignored him and the plane crashed into the sea.
Grandma wasn't having any of it. "If it is true," she said, "why didn't the angel save everyone?".
Eight years later, Grandma died. Her death had a devastating effect on people who knew her. It felt like something was missing from my heart and I walked around in ghost mode.
One day, about a year after Grandma's death, I alighted a bus, I dug into my bag for my wallet but it wasn't there!. It could have been lost or stolen, I didn't know...I could feel hot tears welling up in my eyes, when a man sitting beside me dropped a 1,000 naira note on my lap, "don't worry", he said briefly "it happens to everyone sometimes". Then he walked out before I could even utter a word of thanks. I looked out the window but he was gone.
That was the turning point. It made me realize that I have been looking in the wrong places to prove the existence of angels, because life is full of them, performing small and not so random acts of goodness and kindness. When you become aware of this, you begin to notice them all round. They don't wear wings or white long flowing gowns (at least not the ones I've seen), and they look like teachers, mechanics, waitresses, and they behave like...well Grandma.
My little sister once asked me if Grandma was in heaven, and I replied in the affirmative.
She then asked me "is Grandma an angel now?"
I told her what I know is the truth.
"She always has been"

I knead you to eat these words

You may think that my gastronomic metaphors are tripe, but rather than weeping over spilt milk, I am going to put all my eggs in one basket because I am as cool as cucumber and I am confident that you've got the swagger to swallow and relish this feast I've just cooked up because there is a veritable banquet of mushrooming food metaphors that grace the table of my language and season my tongue.

The people your meet...your peeps, some have taste; we take them like a pinch of salt, while others drive us bananas. Some are crusty old teething nollywood wannabes, they hold up their apples and blackberries with their hand as wrinkled as cabbage. They are no longer in their salad days.

Some others are half-baked turkey-heads who steam us up and drive us nuts.

Some breadwinners make a lot of dough and others earn peanuts.

Then there are those salt of the earth(the good eggs, who in a nutshell, make life a bowl of honey. They are the apple of our eyes!!!.

Is this the age of anger?(2)

This is the second part of the topic:

Bloggers who shout the loudest and hurl the nastiest insults gets the highest ratings.

Homosexuals are enraged that the anti-gay law hasn't been scraped. Fashion models with gymed up sleek bodies glower menacingly from runways and stages.

On tv adverts, models spped their shiny cars along rain soaked, tortuous roads. Their sneers seem to say, "look at you, I've got a car and you haven't".

Our governors are enraged, they tell widows to "go and die", ex presidents write 18paged letter to presidents. Distressed daughters attack their fathers, grandpa raping children, officials striking, bankers and church leaders embezzling all in the name of service. Police men arresting native doctors (that one no fit happen for Nigerian film o).

(To be continued...)

My mind is my room- I'm decluttering. (Tips for you too)

My mind and room have one things in common, they both need to be cleared and decluttered, just like my 'email' inbox. I am in my room and it is cluttered with toys, clothes, bags and books with extra things all over the place, it is chaos and my mind is frenetic.

I've been simple about things for years now,not bothering to check myself. I've gotten pretty good at it, but I've found that you have to keep coming back to revisit your clutter every once in awhile.

Here are my top decluttering tips for your mind:

- Don't think constantly: thinking constantly would get you stuck, instead do the most important thing for the day, if not you would be constantly distracted and unable to focus on easy tasks ahead of you.

- Make a decision- don't just keep on hacking your mind vault for no reason, determine what needs to be done about each situation or experience. Do not put it off, if you wait you might end up with a backlog of thoughts to respond to and may never get around to it. Be responsive and on top of things.

- Be on the watch- do not think negatively, feed on the positive, think like you've got a million dollar mind(because that's what you've got). Reflect deeply on the positive angle because you don't know when an inspiration might filter in and you don't want it redirecting itself to your spam folder. Tag it, save it and archive.

- Dispose it (Trash)- Conquering an entire closet or room can be overwhelming, and you might put it off forever. If that's the case, just do it in baby steps. Make aside couple of hours to do it. You may need to create a system to stop clutter from accumulating this coming year. Ahh...finally, empty inbox!!!

Like my room, there's a reason I have tall stacks of papers all over the place, and big piles of books and clothes. It's because I don't have a regular system to keep things in their place, and get rid of stuff I don't need.

This is a topic for another day.

The Joy of Christmas

Now I have decided ease up on the seriousness of my blog by writing my posts title in small letters and minimizing my use of the google images.

We all love the yuletide season and we expect a lot from it. Isn't it meant to be a day of fun and merry?

Then we frown when all that we looked forward to comes to nought. A single call from our friends eludes a twinkling feeling of joy within us. Our face lights up and we let up an involuntary smile across our face.

The weather may be a bit dry, cold and musky, it might impair our visibility or clog our nostrils, there may be travel chaos and an upsurge in crime but we rejoice!.

We celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ!!!...the carols are everywhere, the streets are festooned with decorations, trees and flowers, and there are those colourful greeting cards with moving words. The messages expresses deep emotions; deep, lyrical, simple languages signed by the sender and tucked in bright envelopes that we feel tempted to keep rather than dispose.

How I love reading those soothing messages, but at the end of it all i ask myself if the emotions expressed in those cards are actually reflective of the sender's true feelings.

Saboteur! Please don't let my title fool you december is actually a time to spread gossips, because everyone is going here and there, doing this and that, and few people have the time to actually sit down and think...those rumour makers and monger prowl around and they are really making waves on the streets. My friend was destabilized because of such rumour. She trusted some certain people...it could be quite funny especially if they didn't get the gist right. She sat back and decided to watch how things would turn out, but it didn't work in her favour. Without laying a finger on her, they killed her . I would forever use this day, december 27th to remember her.

R.I.P Ifeyinwa. I miss you dearly

IS THIS THE AGE OF ANGER?

Recently my friend said, "I hate modern classical music, it always sound so angry".

I've never perceived modern music as such especially if I listen to one of praize or asa's songs. But as soon. As she said it, I knew what she meant.

I've often criticized rap for that same reason "it is not like jazz or early rock, I'd say,"those we're happy". When I hear rap blasting from a passing car, I would wonder what the driver is so furious about.

I might as well name our time 'the age of anger and craziness'. Anger seems to be in everything, from films to music, from art to television commercials.

In advertising, they call it 'attitude'. And I would. Be hard-pressed to say what we are all so angry about.

Chat-show guests and speakers who act the angriest get the most applause. It doesn't matter what their position is- if they raise their voices and pinch the air, everyone would cheer.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Merry Christmas!.

It's a rare moment to find myself at the computer with some space to write, some energy to formulate my thoughts and yes, even more surprising still, something perhaps to say.

I have been through a lot in the past months. Days have turned into weeks, weeks into months and months into years. Now the end of the year is here. There is a lot to be gained from...a whole lot!. It has been fulfilling, inspiring and educating. How time flies!...who would have thought that I could have scaled through all my distractors, seducers, and fake friends.

WHERE IS THIS FILM?(TODD AND THE BOOK OF PURE EVIL)

How I love this series!, 'todd and the book of pure evil'. I have searched and searched for the film but I couldn't find it after I watched the season one. It seems that after the season 2 it was cut off, because I have seen the season two on the web but I couldn't download it for free.
The movie is about an evil book that grant peoples wish, but it later has bad effects on the person whose wish it grants. Todd is the only person who could save the students of the school from the escapades of the book. But each time he gets close to the book, it flies away.
The one thing that amazes me about this film is the uncanny fact that the issue of death is treated very likely. Every  time a person dies, the indifference the characters in the movie shows is amazing.
I love the graphics, storyline, characters, setting (it was set mainly in a school premise)
I'll keep on searching

LIVE HAPPY

IF I DIE TODAY

If I die today
What would I miss?
What would you miss?
Would you love or hate me
For those things I left behind; my legacy

If I die today
Would your tears be of mere hypocrisy
Would you hate me for just being me?
I wouldn't know
Whether you would reap the seeds I have sown
Good or bad, known or unknown

If I die today
Come what may
Good or bad, known or unknown
I wouldn't know
If I died today

UNCERTAIN

Emoticon

Whatever the answer may be
It still touches me
The snow in my mind and heart
The rains which blocks me
From my conscious self
A lonely experience of yore

Too much on my plate
You think?
I am left with a promise of certainty
A promise of emotional blizzard
That only the sunlight of idiots can melt

Personally,
It gives me a pulse
Or should I say a ‘pause’?
Now I fast forward and play my music
What make I of all that?
I cannot possibly answer

Self-incriminations…
Legal balderdash…
Begs the question ‘why do we never get an answer?’
For I am in a Plethora of doubt
Circumventing uncertainty

I’ve been burnt by the dichotomy of virtue
Reality talks
Rubbish walks!

7. My perfect man must be highly communicative and less dictactive
8. My perfect man must be scandal-free
9. My perfect man must be a great singer

I don't want to be like this woman below:  (lol...)

Imperfect Me

This is a poem I wrote for my distractors, fakers and haterz. It is titled 'taking solace in my imperfection'. Kind of a hate poem

I'm not who you think I am
I'm not who you want me to be
I'm me and I'm not sorry
So don't expect an apology

Don't look unless you actually want to see
Not what you want to see but the real me

I'm not faultless, I never said I was
I'm not perfect, I never claimed to be
We all live to live and learn
Because one day we all die, die and dry

What do you expect?
What do you expect from me!!!
An apology
I have paid for my mistakes
So don't expect an apology

A CERTAIN ADDICTION

A lot can happen when you are addicted to a certain kind of kindness, such that if you don't feel it most of the time, you would go out of your way to be sad once again. I actually found myself addicted to sadness.  Of course, I did not see it, or care to see it, at the time — however, for some reason I found myself drawn to the drama of despairing relationships and then the resignation that would finally come after everything was said and done.
It was no way to live — I know this now.
Interestingly enough, it took years of going through similar relationships to realize what I was unconsciously doing to myself. Perhaps I was "addicted" to my sadness because it let me feel real — pain, as much as we say we hate it, is often preferable to apathy for many of us. In a strange, crazy sort of way, it reminds us that we are alive and a part of something. However, it is ironic that despite the fact that we may be the ones choosing the addiction, we still blame the external — whether it be another person or a circumstance — as the reason for our pain.
We may feel alive and important because we experience pain, but a greater joy and greater sense of being comes from developing self-awareness and responsibility for our own happiness. When we learn that we truly are the captains of our own ships, the wonderful rush of being alive and being real finally becomes ours. This kind of conditioning are due to several factors.

FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH

Yeh...about yesterday friday the thirteenth. It is a day rumoured to be set for doom. It is considered as one of the most unlucky day on the calendar. What happened in my life yesterday? Something I know nothing of? Something I didn't pay attention to?
While there is limited evidence that bad things do happen on the 13th of friday, those in the united states believe in this superstition. For example, the 13th floor is missing in many buildings, airports they skip from 12 to 14.

So why all the hype? In traditional numerology, 12 is the number of completeness :
12 hours on the clock
12 apostles
12 months in the year
and 13 is the number of transgression.
As for Friday, it's considered unlucky for a number of reasons from the religious (Jesus was crucified on a Friday) to the financial (Black Friday has been associated with a number of stock market crashes).
Since then, novels (Thomas W. Lawson's 1907 novel Friday, the Thirteenth), movies (Friday the 13th) and numerologists have convinced nervous types that 13 is unlucky. And Friday the 13th is unlucky times two.
But guess what? I don't buy it, youu know why?:
Because friday the 13th yesterday was the day my siblings were all in one place. Something that haven't happened in a long while.

TIME TO SHOW MY LIGHT

I am not a religious zealot. Never have been and never might be.

I have, however, read the bible more extensively than most. I think it's a great and interesting book of wisdom.

With all the things that have been going through my mind lately, I have been reminded of a  few verses in the bible that I think are fantastic:

"Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works" - Matthew 5:14-16

Whatever your religious beliefs, I think that this is some brilliant life advice. I think I have been hiding my 'light' for a while now. I don't think it's intentional and I can't really explain what I even mean. I just think that I have been hiding myself away a bit. Fortunately this is changing lately with a bit of an awakening that I have been feeling. So hopefully soon I will be giving light to all in my life…

STILL ME

I write for my love of words. I write for the feeling of my feelings. it feels beautiful to pick up words and use it to create wonderful meanings. It's so weird that I write well when I am sad and well I write everyday so I guess I am always sad. I have a collection of about 150 poems but still it lies there in my parlour, every day I read it and I'm even sadder. Enough of this sad shit! I can't wait to break free. I'm living the life of my mentor :

Williams Shakespeare

Rest in peace my love.

AMARACHI ON HIGH

This girl is really rocking it. Amarachi Uyanne is the winner of the maiden edition of Nigeria's Got Talent, 8-year-old Amarachi releases the video for her debut single "Amarachi's Dance".  The gist from the grapevine is that she's now signed under CApital/Goretti Management.

I am happy for her!

ODUAH-GATE PALAVA

The oduah-gate panel is all with controversy, lies and lack of supportive evidence, over the purchase of the two 1.6 million dollars (255 million naira) bmw bullet proof cars. I believe Stella Oduah is doing a fine job as the minister of aviation but in this matter, she is as guilty as sin itself and it doesn't matter whatever defence her team comes up with in the weeks to come: that's a little too late. In my opinion I think she saw this coming being a female in a male dominated politics. If her security was being compromised she should have alerted the police. Stella Oduah is the scape goat in this issue, given that she is not the first to purchase such exotic cars . Good luck to the Efcc in their investigation.

THESE CHINESE SEF...

I love reading and eating while sitting on the toilet seat its comfy, no doubt.

But of all the many themes to choose from, in one restaurant in China, customers eat from a 'toilet' and also seat on a toilet. The interior décor resembles a beautiful bathroom with pillows in the shape of, well...poop

CHRIS OKOTIE COMMENT ON CATHOLICS

Chris Okotie's congregation surely was not surprised when he told them all to be beware of catholics because they were all on their way to hell, so Pastor Christopher Okotie of the Household of God Church must be called to order. If not, he will set the whole country on fire.
Prophet T.B. Joshua has reprimanded him. Now the Catholic Church and the media is talking about it. Chris Okotie should not set this country on fire oo!. I hope Okotie will not say something someday that will cause religious crisis in Nigeria.
Okotie called all Catholic counterfeits and peole who bow to idols and crucify Jesus every Sunday when they eat bread claiming they are eating Jesus' body. He believes that Catholics claim to be Christians but they do not know Jesus. He calls the pope an anti-Christ who works for the devil and that very soon the Catholic Church will pledge allegiance to the devil.

THE "GO AND DIE" WIDOW EPISODE 2

Hilarious!...

1000 NAIRA ON DEALDAY

This is really nice. Dealdey just gave me 1000naira in my wallet today. Well what should I order?. Well, since I've got one week to make up my mind, I am thinking cupcakes!

DOING THE SPLIT 2

Yesterday was fun. There was no light throughout the whole day but as soon as my mum came back, she sat in her car and increased the volume of the music. It was a song from Flavour her favourite musician 'Shake ukwu'. I just stood there dancing and shaking my waist while eating the yummy snacks she bought. By the time she put off the music I was already on the floor trying hard to do the split once more but couldn't. I'm only a few inches off the ground I hope I get there soon.

MY NOVEL DRAMA 1

And so I decide to write a novel, I pick up my pen and few minutes later, I blank out. My big bro comes in and spoils everything for me. (I won't say how) Way to go man! I've got great ideas but implementation is the key. But for now it's just a mere dream

ALIVE ALWAYS

I am fundamentally an optimist. Whether that comes from nature or nurture, I cannot say. Part of being optimistic is keeping one's head pointed toward the sun, one's feet moving forward. There were many dark moments when my faith in humanity was sorely tested, but I would not and could not give myself up to despair. That way lays defeat and death.

— Nelson Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom

THE GO AND DIE WIDOW EPISODE

Na wa oo, na so person just hammer 'my fellow widows' what are you waiting for?. Get insulted by a governor, and u go jam fame, collect job, money, waka.

I believe state funds should be used for the benefit of the masses and not for funding apologies. It is no longer news that she has been appointed a special assistance on environmental matters to Adams Oshiomole and was given the sum of 250,000 and 2,000,000 naira. I commend the fact that the governor realizes his rudeness and has apologized for that but what does he hope to teach Nigerians?, that crime pays...in cash.

BODY CONFIDENCE

Women are taught a lot of things about how their bodies "should" look. The world is full of critics—and a woman's harshest critic is usually herself. When celebrities are slammed in the tabloids for showing cellulite on the beach and models are demonized for being too thin, it's no wonder we look in the mirror and aren't 100 percent happy with what we see. Body confidence, to me, is the social, physical and psychological/spiritual sense of assurance that comes from your physical characteristics. It's not just about how your body looks but also how it performs. How you feel about your body starts in your mind. If you think that everyone else in the room is thinner than you, you're going to feel terrible and your body confidence will be low. If you think that you look pretty good, you'll feel better and your body confidence will be higher. Having a healthy body and having the confidence that you do are two very different things. The foods that can give you a great body—such as omega-3 fatty acids, black tea and dark chocolate—can also boost your mood. These are all foods that, in moderation, can help you live longer, happier and with oodles of confidence.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to accept your body

HOW GOOD IS YOUR TEETH

I know why I keep on emphasizing on the teeth, in my previous posts I wrote on the techniques and ways to brush the teeth. I once told an aboki not to worry and smile, but when he did I almost threw up. I retracted my words. Why is it that those with the worst mouth odour are those that come close to your nose when they open their mouths to speak. Really...most Nigerians don't even visit the dentist nowadays. Visiting your dentist regularly and having your teeth professionally cleaned makes a drastic difference in your overall health. A clean mouth not only reduces cavities, but also can also greatly improve the health of your entire body. Healthy teeth allow you to eat the food you need, while also reducing the amount of harmful bacteria you swallow.

While brushing and flossing both help to prevent cavities, regular visits to the dentist are essential if you want to have the healthiest mouth possible. Dentists have the tools and expertise to conquer toothaches and prevent larger, costlier problems from occurring. Hurry Now To Your Dentist.

TO BELCH OR NOT TO BELCH

Belching can be cute for a toddler but for an adult it can be seen as a mannerless behaviour. You are in a public place; a restaurant or a commercial bus then you drink a bottle of water or the famous pure water and after gulping it down you instantly have this overwhelming desire to belch. How would you do it and still save face?

Here's what I always do: I make a distracting sound or movement and release the air slowly.

I try not to swallow it, because swallowing the air only makes it worse (minutes later it might come out with a full blast!)

TOILET SCRUBBING

Some years back I remember when my cousin came to live with us. We were cleaning the house and do virtually everything together, until one day she used her bare hands and a small bar soap to scrub the toilet, I backed off. I was shocked because I hadn't expected that to come from her and besides we had a scrubber by the toilet.

I asked her why she was doing that and she told me that she just loved trying out new things so that she could have something to gist her future children. Well said though, but it is very unhygenic and unheard of, I think.

WEIGH-A-HOLICSM

Sometimes I feel that my scale lies to me. Each time,my weight fluctuates from one to three kg everyday. After I lost my 11kg, I became crazy about keeping the weight off so I started weighing myself everyday, and I discovered that you don't necessarily have to get on the scale frequently. Over the years, I've unknowingly become a weigh-a-holics. That is, people who step on the scales far too often. Some do it every day of their lives. Morning and night. Some step on and off five times in ten seconds in the hope that a lower figure might magically appear between their feet. Then they do it again thirty seconds later. Sound familiar?

Well, dear UCB readers, do not jump on that poor scale when it's 8pm and you've eaten a cow for dinner. Under normal conditions, we're all heavier at the end of the day. Not fatter, heavier.

Also, don't weigh yourself when you're wearing hiking boots, after you've just completed a strenuous workout, and ensure that the scale is on a solid surface (tiles, timber, concrete), otherwise your reading could be inaccurate. Don't also weigh yourself on certain days of the month (you can skip this one boys). I know you girls don't need me to spell it out for you but for menstruating women there will typically be somewhere between two and seven days per month when your weight is temporarily inflated due to increased water retention. Probably best to avoid the scales during this time.

Don't be that weigh-a-holic. Best of Luck!

Sometimes the thought of weighing yourself puts you in a state of anxiety. Stepping on the scales frequently is not good.

GOODBYE NELSON MANDELA

I read Nelson Mandela's long walk to freedom in september and I can't help but to be touched. He fought for freedom. He fought for peace. Because of him, blacks now have the right to live peacefully in south africa.

He died today after a prolonged illness that kept him bedridden and unable to move on his own.

RIP MANDELA!

FUNBACT-A - THE NEMESIS

I used funbact-a triple action and my facial black heads dissappeared. It was wonderful because I had tried other creams and herbs but it didn't work. So, I kept on using funbact-a and even recommended it to my siblings and friends. It cleared off all my pimples but in the second month of using it, my mum exclaimed that I had gotten lighter and warned me to stop using it. I looked like a ghost with an uneven skin tone. Not only does it bleach your skin it also thins it, making it weak and vunerable to more acne break out. This makes you want to keep using the product because if you stop you breakout more. So don't ever use it. If you are still adamant, i would advise you to you funbact-a once in a year. Don't call me bad belle o...

DO YOU SLEEP UNDER THE FAN?

I love the fan too much, but even at that I prefer sleeping under the air conditioner, I have a very big fan in my room and sometimes I would just fix it directly to my face, and then in the morning I wake up with sore throat and congestion. My family would complain and scream but I just can't sleep without the fan blowing at my skin.

Sleeping under the fan don't really cause sickness, what makes you fall sick is the dirts coming from your fan straight into your nose. You breathe in that polluted air all night and then you wake up irritations, allergies and other kind of diseases. I think it depends on the person, some people's immune systems are weaker then others and they prone to getting a chill after sleeping near a fan. The body's temperature naturally goes down when one sleeps and with a fan it goes down even more and some people may react badly to that and others don't. I don't...

TO LATE TO DO THE SPLIT

Whenever I participate in a dancing competition, I marvel at the rate at which the crowd goes 'gaga' for my opponent whenever she does the split, and it quickly puts her at the winning edge so I kill her off with my stepping skills. I don't remember doing the splits when I was a little girl. However, I just recently starting falling in love with it and getting into it because people told me it's never too late to start. I get discouraged seeing all the girls all flexible. Is it still possible for me to do the splits at this age?, if yes, for how long would I have to practice stretching?. Maybe I would have to stretch for like 30 minutes a day till I feel sore. I might not be a contortionist but I still rock as a dancer. Ciao!

YUMMY SKINFLAKES

What's for dinner today? oh, skinflakes. Surpised?, please don't be. While you eat your cornflakes dessert we eat our skinflakes

from your skin, of course.

We are the dust mites, but don't worry we are not like bed bugs who give nasty bites). We told chetachukwu not to expose us but well in her usual way she decided to.

We eat dead skin and our feaces can cause allergies. We thrive in warm damp places i.e. your bed after you have slept in it. When you get up in the morning throw the covers back and let the bed 'air' for a while before you remake it. Washing your bedding at 60 degree C, drying in a hot tumble dryer, ironing or hanging outside in the sun will all kill us off. Be sure never to shake your clothing or bedclothes in the bedroom because this will distribute us all over the room. Regular vacuuming of nooks and crannies in the bedroom and the mattress (and mat if you use one) will help. Unless you are allergic to us though they are harmless. Try not to think about us too much!

Remain dirty,

Yours dust mites.

HANDLING MY HANDKERCHIEF

Maybe my handkerchief is not meant exclusively for my hands but I sometimes use it to wipe other parts of my body. I found out that this is a common trend in nigeria. There was a man in the bus who put up a disgusting sight; he blew his nose on his hanky and kept it in his pocket, then minutes later when he began to sweat he brought it out and used it to clean his face. I almost threw-up in the bus because I could still see the catarrh on the hanky. Please your 'hanky' should not be used for the face or you should have a two for different purposes. Please pass me my face towel...

MY LOVELY OLIVE OIL

I have used olive oil as my morning and night cream for about two years now and a few times Mercy, my roommate would ask why my skin was too oily, especially when I got back from my lectures.

Now this week,I followed my mum to her school and when we came back home I got to know that a colleague of hers was dying to know why my skin glowed , my mum didn't tell her the secret of my glowing skin but that's what I'm about to share with you today.

What olive oil does for your skin:

-Olive oil smoothens the skin, giving it a bright shine

-Olive oil removes pimples and craw craw

-Olive oil is good for dry and flaky skin

-Olive oil is protects the skin against the harm done to the skin by the sun

-When olive oil is rubbed on your face it makes it look brighter.

Tip- use olive oil with dudu osun soap to prevent flaky skin

I JUST REALISED HOW I LOST WEIGHT

Good morning health blog readers, I was thinking about how I lost 11kg during this asuu strike, and I was amazed. The reality of it all just struck me.

Here's my secret:

1.   I ate less starchy foods

Our major food in nigeria is mainly carbohydrate like: Garri, yam, pounded yam, indomie, semovita, akpu, spaghetti, Rice, cornflakes, bread, cocoyam, etc. This might be a little bit difficult but the key word is 'little'

2. I consumed less palm oil

3. I watch the salt intake (Maggi, Onga etc.)

Salt in itself has little to no calories, but over-consumption of salt leads to temporary weight gain as it causes the body to retain water,in order words, bloating, giving the illusion of weight gain.

4. I watched what I Drank

Soda/minerals  like fanta and coke should be avoided and remember that some "healthy" drinks contain a lot of sugar to keep customers coming back. Nevertheless, avoid sugar, because sugar has an addictive nature.

5. I chose my meat wisely,i avoided red meat and ate more of chicken.

6. I didn't oven bake and oven fry (avoid deep frying)

Oven frying helps to save a bundle of calories and fat. Avoid akara and buns.

7. I avoided high calorie snacks like the sweet Fanvanille, gala, lacasera, chin chin, buns, Puff puff, plantain chips)

8. I ate spicy foods

Hot peppers have been shown to raise your metabolism, but the real Benefit of peppery food is that they slow your eating. Also spicy foods requires water; by increasing your water intake you feel full faster.

9. I ate more fiber

Fiber helps you feel full so eat your greens and fruits. Avoid banana though.

10.I danced

As I have found out, dancing is a very great form of exercise so instead of subjecting yourself to extreme work outs, why don't you dance that fat off!

ARE YOU REALLY CLEAN AFTER YOUR BATH?

When we leave the bathroom after our bath we feel good with all the relief and wonderful sensation that comes from the bath. Then we pick up our towel, and clean our body...Stop and think twice before letting that towel touch your freshly scrubbed face, and ask yourself these questions:

When last did you wash your towel?

Where do you keep your towel?

It is important to watch our towels every two weeks. Do bath towels really ever get dirty?, of course yes. Most towels are made of 100 percent cotton. While it's true that after a shower you have eliminated most of the germs and dirt from your skin, the process of rubbing a towel against the body rubs off dead skin that sticks to the moist towel. Towels also become an ideal nesting place for insects like little cockroaches. eeww!

DUDU OSUN- THE POWER SOAP

Yes I call it the power soup because it is highly effective and all natural.

It is made from. Honey, palm oil, aloe vera, lime juice, shea butter and a host of other traditional herbs.

With Dudu-osun black soap you are safe. I used dudu osun for two months and I noticed that my skin became brighter, my pimples just melted with the lather.

Note: it is advisable to moisturize your skin after each use because of the after effect- it could make your skin dry(FACT)

USE YOUR SUNGLASSES

Nigeria's weather can be harsh especially during this festive season, if you don't move around in your personal car then I would advice you to prepare properly before leaving your house. Don't just leave your sunglasses at home, use it; make sure it has uv rays protection and not too tinted enough to make you blind-walk. Sunglasses helps protect your naked eyes from the sun and it is also fashionable and sexy. You can find cool ones in the market, kiosks or boutiques.
