Happy New year?

Another year passes
Survived by the masses
Friends dead in car crashes
Been through love, pain and backlashes

Growing stronger to be the best
The loudest and the highest
Never would I cry for fear or joy
Regret or sadness
I've struggled through the years, yearning
I've learnt by having been burned 'n' burning

Revolving around the sun with evolving personal problems
Everyone is out for themselves
While the nation's problem, we can't solve them

A year is gone in living, killing
And killing for living
Fighting for causes to which there's no winning
Conferences, accords, sanctions and peace treaties
Children abused, fighting
Because of hunger and being needy

Some fight with weapons against those without armour
For pride and cheap honour
But terrorism is a suicide bomber
You can calm me no longer
Hypocrisy is growing stronger
For millions, surviving is getting harder

Years can't pass severe and peaceful
Because our bombs are nuclear and atomic
And whether you are a christian
Jewish or islamic
All of our choices are still economic

Billions of naira spent in fighting wars
With money that could be used to alleviate poverty
Still no one sees what seems to be evil and greedy

A year in need spent naively in pursuing the Nigerian dream
Fast cars and stars but nothing is as it seems
In a world so fake
One day is all it takes...
You could be living the life
And die in a quake

So let's take this year and remember that which it taught you;
To be thoughtful, a friend someone can talk to
Remember in a world of war, all we can afford
Are the people we love, their comfort and support
Treat others equal and never be deceitful
Call me hopeless, but all I want is for my country to be peaceful.
